Anne is a fourth generation Alabama lawyer from Bay Minette, Alabama. Since 1996, Anne has practiced law in Kinston, Alabama, which is located in Coffee County in southeast Alabama. Before moving to Kinston, Anne practiced law for over 9 years in Birmingham, Alabama after she completed a federal judicial clerkship in 1988 with the Hon. Sam Pointer, then the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. From 1988 to 1991, Anne served as an associate with Cabaniss, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal. In 1991, Anne joined Walston Wells & Birchall, LLP, where she became a partner in 1995. Anne continued to practice with Walston Wells following her marriage to Andy Sumblin in 1996 and her subsequent move to his hometown of Kinston, Alabama. Effective April 1, 2010, Anne began her legal practice under Stone Sumblin Law LLC where she continues to represent her clients from her office in Kinston.

Anne Stone Sumblin moved her practice to Coffee County, Alabama, following her marriage to Andy Sumblin in 1996. Anne’s practice began in Birmingham in 1988 with Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner & O’Neal, following a one-year federal district court clerkship with Honorable Sam C. Pointer, then the Chief Judge, Northern District of Alabama. Beginning in 1991, Anne practiced with Walston Wells & Birchall, LLP, where she became a partner in 1995 and remained as a partner even following her move in 1996 to Kinston, Alabama, located in the southeast corner of Coffee County, Alabama.
During her years of practice in Birmingham, Anne practiced in the area of commercial litigation, with an emphasis on creditor rights. After moving to south Alabama, Anne continued to represent clients in Birmingham and also gained clients in south Alabama, such as two municipalities, area banks, a regional construction company, a trucking company, a regional grocery store chain, an engineering firm, a clothing designer and retailer, and agriculture producers, lenders, and suppliers. Anne’s legal career has included jury and bench trials in Alabama circuit and district courts, in federal district courts, in bankruptcy courts in several states, and one successful oral argument before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Anne is a fourth generation Alabama lawyer from Bay Minette, Alabama. Her Father, Norborne C. Stone, Jr., is the founding member of Stone, Granade & Crosby, P.C., and he is a former President of the Alabama State Bar. Anne’s 20+ year legal career has included multiple jury and bench trials in Alabama circuit and district courts in over six different counties and in federal district courts in Alabama, as well as evidentiary hearings in commercial arbitration and evidentiary and motion hearings in U.S. bankruptcy courts in four states. Anne’s representation of a Covington County, Alabama, poultry producer against an insurer involved a successful oral argument before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Since moving to south Alabama, Anne has served the Alabama State Bar as a Bar Examiner and, later, as Chair of the Alabama State Bar's Board of Bar Examiners. Beginning in 2005, she was appointed by the Alabama Supreme Court to serve on the Alabama Supreme Court’s Rules of Civil Procedure Committee. Anne’s term on the Rules Committee was recently extended until 2019, and Anne has agreed to serve as the Recorder of the Committee at the request of its new chairperson. In 2013, Anne was honored by her induction as a member of the Alabama Law Foundation, a group comprised of the top 1% of lawyers in Alabama. Anne also served at the request of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama on its committee to recommend candidates for two magistrate judge positions.
For the University of Alabama School of Law, Anne currently serves on the Law School Foundation Board of Directors and recently served as President of the Order of the Coif. Locally, Anne has served as a vestry member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Andalusia, Alabama.
Anne attended the University of Alabama from 1979 to 1983 where she was President of both Crimson Girls/Capstone Men and Delta Delta Delta.
